Commercial & Industrial Noise

The current specific acoustic standard for measurement of commercial & industrial noise is BS 4142: 2014 “Methods for rating industrial and commercial sound“, initially this was intended as a planning tool.

However, it is often used as part of a complete noise assessment, when a complaint of noise (nuisance) of an Commercial & Industrial Noise nature is made to a Local Authority as it contains procedures for assessing whether the noise in question “is likely to give rise to complaint”

BS 4142 is generally used;

  • As a planning tool to control new proposals which could produce noise of an industrial nature.
  • As a planning tool when new housing is proposed where there is already industrial type noise.
  • As part (an integral part) of the process of assessing an industrial / commercial type noise complaint.

We can carry out continuous monitoring of industrial / commercial noise for the calculation of a BS4142: 2014 rating level. Analyze for any other nuisance factors within the specific noise such as tonal or impulsive along with a recorded sample of the noise source during that measurement period to provide a substantial evaluation of the noise from commercial / industrial sources.

Our Acoustic Consultants are experts in the use of BS4142: 2014 and other relevant Acoustic Standards and Guidelines to help with the correct noise data gathering and evaluation of an existing or future noise issue.
